ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Peranzanes is a municipality belonging to the rural district of el Bierzo, which is part of the Natural Space of the Sierra de Ancares, and is also catalogued as a Special Protection Area for Birds, and a Site of Community Interest, within the Red Natura 2000.

This route starts opposite the Town Hall in Peranzanes, and climbs quickly on a track that leads to Trascastro. In this section the route crosses the River la Fervienza, with its luxuriant riverside woodland. After passing through Trascastro the track climbs through an area of shrubland and small Oaks, where there are numerous Accentors and Buntings. From the top one can see the municipality of Chano, to which we descend. Once there, we take a path which follows the riverbank of the River Cúa, to Guímara, from where we return to Peranzanes along tracks and the road.

In addition to the great diversity of birds that can be observed, the number of mammals in the area is worthy of note. One can see Roe Deer, Red Foxes, European Badgers, Dormice, and Shrews, in an environment of great natural value.
