ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The diversion dam of the River Lobos is a reservoir built to irrigate an area of the region of Tierra de Peñaranda, in the northeast of the province of Salamanca. In the few years since its creation it has become a privileged enclave for the reproduction and observation of birds. In 2003 was declared a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPAB).

The route goes around the whole perimeter of the wetland on an asphalt track from El Campo de Peñaranda, where there is also the possibility of consulting ornithological texts in a specialized section of the municipal library. Due to their singularity it is worth mentioning species such as the White-headed Duck or the Common Spoonbill. There are also Stilts and a large concentration of Geese, Mallards, Northern Shovelers, Northern Pintails or Coots. Finally, there are also colonies of Lesser Kestrel, one of them at the Alquería de Riolobos, on the north side of the reservoir.
