Justification for our participation in the TRINO project

Las Merindades is a transition zone between two large European biogeographical regions, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, which makes Las Merindades a true Paradise for Birds thanks to its great diversity in terms of landscapes and biology. With respect to bird life, Las Merindades has around 175 different species which can be observed all throughout the region in different seasons, given that Las Merindades has nesting, summer, and winter birds, in addition to passage migrants that come from Northern Europe and cross our territory in search of warmer temperatures.

For all of these reasons, we consider ornithology to be a primary resource for contributing to sustainable development in our territory, which will promote environment conservation. The TRINO project is an appropriate means of appreciating this resource through participation in different measures that are being carried out as part of this project in conjunction with other areas in Castilla y León with characteristics that are similar to ours. TRINO will contribute to the consolidation of tourism possibilities and to the identification of a Birdwatching brand in Castilla y León, in which Las Merindades wishes to play an active role.
