ROUTE DESCRIPTIONThe landscape that surrounds Tórtoles de Esgueva is marked by vineyards and cereal cultivations, and by the limestone moors of El Cerrato in Burgos and the banks of River Esgueva. The route starts by climbing in the direction of the peak known as Barco Abejas (or Barco del Muerto) from where we can contemplate some beautiful views of this irrigation reservoir. This part of the route coincides with a marked track known as “Sendero de la Morera y de los Valles”. After going down to the bank of the reservoir, we walk around it with the opportunity to observe aquatic birds such as Common Sandpipers, Little Egrets, Grebes, Mallards or Coots. Later the path abandons the reservoir to descend to the valley of River Esgueva on a wide track that runs parallel to the river bank. The route returns to Tórtoles de Esgueva amongst a mosaic of cereal cultivations and vineyards, not without the opportunity of seeing and hearing some of the birds that inhabit these open spaces such as Crested Larks, Greater Short-toed Larks and Stonechats.
