ROUTE DESCRIPTIONThis ornithological route follows the PRSA -14 short distance path in the Natural Park of Las Batuecas - Sierra de Francia, in the province of Salamanca. The linear route starts in La Alberca and finishes in Herguijuela de la Sierra. Along the route the varying orientation of the different slopes, and the different degree of dampness caused by the streams and springs create different environmental conditions, favouring a great variety of fauna and flora. Leaving La Alberca the path goes into an area of vegetable plots and Chestnut trees, before passing into a leafy wood of Oaks, Chestnuts, and Pines, which provides views of Jays, Hawfinches, varieties of Leaf Warbler and Typical Warbler. After crossing the track that comes from La Alberca, the countryside changes to an area of Holm Oaks and Cistus, which is more open and drier, and where one can observe birds of prey, such as the Griffon Vulture, Black Vulture, Golden Eagle, and Peregrine Falcon. The descent to Herguijuela passes through a cool Oak wood, then into Pines, before emerging to an area of vegetable plots.
