ROUTE DESCRIPTIONThe route starts at Filiel (Lucillo), in the region of La Maragatería, at the foot of Monte Teleno. Part of the itinerary goes through a protected zone which is the Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Special Protection Area for Birds (SPAB) named “Montes Aquilanos”; a rough uneven territory which covers the highest areas of the Montes Aquilanos and Sierra del Teleno. The route starts climbing amongst small vegetable fields until it reaches a more open area from where there are spectacular views of the flat tops of Sierra del Teleno. We can spot fascinating birds of prey flying through the sky such as the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), the Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus) or the Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus). When we get to a fountain we take the valley that descends to the stream of “Valle Prado”, the vegetation on its banks garlands the route until we arrive at the remains of some gold mines from Roman times. At this point, we follow a forest path that takes us back to Filiel again. GAL: MONTAÑAS DEL TELENO Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip.
