ROUTE DESCRIPTIONValdeprados is a small village located in the south of the province of Segovia, in the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The municipality is part of the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPAB) and Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Valle del Voltoya y el Zorita”, as well as being part of the territory for the Reintroduction Plan for the Spanish Imperial Eagle. The route is an easy walk that combines elements of great natural interest. From Valdeprados we take a path parallel to the stream of El Quejigar, where we can see riverbank birds such as the Chaffinch, the Wagtail, the Wren and the Nightingale. Before arriving at Puente Viejo, which crosses the River Moros, we take a track on the right of the path which ascends in the direction of La Risca. This geographical accident is a fluvial canyon with a length of about 300 m and up to 40 m in height, constituted by vertical walls of metamorphic rocks (gneiss). From the top it is easy to see birds of prey such as Golden Eagles and Short-toed Eagles, Booted Eagles, Common Buzzards and Red Kites, and rock nesting birds such as Red-billed Choughs, Crag Martins and Blue Rock Thrushes. The route continues to an abandoned mill, giving us close up views of the riparian wood of the River Moros.
