HIGH MOUNTAIN BUSHES AND PASTURE
Underneath the summit, there is a system formed by HIGH MOUNTAIN BUSHES AND PASTURE. The unfavourable conditions hinder the development of larger tree areas. As a result, the zone is mainly covered by great extensions of bushes and open areas, combined with alpine and rocky meadows. This system of environmental conditions due to the cold and lack of food reduces the variety and abundance of species. Among them we can find the Alpine Accentor, Bluethroat, Common Rock Thrush and the Ring Ouzel.
Some examples of this environment in Castilla and León are Picos de Europa, Montaña Palentina, Sirras de Gredos, Urbión and Guadarrama.
