Justification for our participation in the TRINO project

In the more than 2,100 km² of area that the Montañas del Teleno cover, a surprising natural mosaic is observed, with places that combine profiles and characteristic elements of mountainous regions with those typical of plains or rivera reas. There are 242,900 ha included in ZEPAs (Special Protection Areas for Birds) and 43,775 ha classified as LICs (Sites of Community Interest), in addition to a rich and diverse natural heritage with eye-catching endemic flora and fauna.

The following curious and interesting birds of prey are just some of those that can be easily spotted: the short-toed snake eagle, golden eagle, buzzard, Bonelli’s eagle, red kite, goshawk, and Eurasian kestrel; other species include the white-throated dipper, Eurasian kingfisher, heron, and anatids.

There are special areas for observing these and other species, and several interpretation centres already exist in the locality of Jiménez de Jamuz, included in the “Valdería-Jamuz” ZEPA. Two paths can also be enjoyed: the “La Garza Real” Bird Observatory” and the “Sisón”, both inside the “Valdería-Jamuz” ZEPA.

The 25 municipalities in Montañas del Teleno also provide lodging and dining options for tourists that can satisfy even the most diverse and demanding requirements, and new complementary activities for tourists looking for nature, heritage, relaxation…may the tourist come, without delay, and allow him/herself to be captivated by its contrasting landscpaes, its radiant light, its unique cuisine, its ancestral traditions…and, most importantly, the best thing about these legendary lands: its people.
